Job Description Job Description Salary: Starting at $25.15 per
hour Overview The Road Commission is hiring a Traffic Signal
Technician (Electrician) in the Traffic Safety Department,
Electrical Division, to perform skilled manual and technical work
for over 1800 electrical devices county wide, including traffic
signals and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Technicians
are primarily responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair
at all times of day, including inclement weather, at night, on
holidays and weekends. A two-year training program will be provided
as needed. Duties Maintains, cleans, repairs, troubleshoots, and
installs traffic signal equipment and various other electrical
devices to meet Road Commission specifications. Operates,
troubleshoots, and programs traffic signal parameters and
implements timings. Operates or uses a variety of tools and
equipment related to traffic signal maintenance. Troubleshoots and
repairs devices during outages and/or malfunctions to maintain
proper performance. Uses and maintains emergency generators during
power outages. Operates and drives various truck mounted aerial
lift devices. Installs, repairs, and maintains underground
conduits, handholes, pulling overhead and underground
wiring/cables, and other electrical power equipment. Maintain
accurate electronic records of tasks and troubleshooting related to
traffic signal and equipment malfunctions; repairs, troubleshoots,
and conducts preventative maintenance ensuring all safety
requirements are met. Responds to emergencies involving traffic
signals and other electrical devices. Assists with maintenance and
repairs of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment
including traffic loops, video detection systems and wireless
communication systems. Assists with building and grounds electrical
work at Road Commission facilities, as needed. Follows RCOC safety
standards to establish proper work zone, working near traffic and
using aerial bucket trucks within established work zones. Must
perform duties in a professional and courteous manner to promote a
positive image of the Road Commission for Oakland County. Requires
a daily schedule that supports RCOC hours of operation. Regular and
predictable onsite job attendance is an essential function of this
position. Special Experience/Education A high school diploma or
equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan
drivers license. A valid State of Michigan CDL-A drivers license
(air brake endorsement) is required or the ability to obtain one.
Availability and willingness to work overtime is required. 2 to 3
years of electrical training or trade school experience is
preferred. Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician License is
preferred. IMSA Traffic Signals Technician certification is
preferred. Training or experience using the National Electrical
Code (NEC) is preferred. Disclosure This position is within a
